"I am a self taught artist and have been passionate about art, music and architecture for as long as I can remember.

"Much of my 6 years travelling overseas was spent visiting galleries in every country I visited. During my twenty years as a teacher, I was responsible for running Art programmes in most schools I taught at. I ran the Art Programme at Auckland's Starship Children's Hospital for 5 years.

"In the late 1980's I taught as an art specialist at Otumoetai Intermediate, then Otumoetai College in Tauranga. More recently at Katikati College. I have also run private Art classes for children and Art Therapy classes for adults at my studio "Shavida" in Whakamarama, just north of Tauranga.

"In 1999 I worked on the set of Lord of the Rings as a set finisher and sculptor and since then I have been a full tme artisit, doing commissions and having exhibitions.

"After years of globe-trotting and teaching art at primary, intermediate and high school levels, I decided it was time to be "self-indulgent" and do something for myself. I began having exhibitions in 1993 and have been in 22 exhibitions since then. I have also done many commissions and have works all over New Zealand and pieces n Britian, Spain, Australia, Switzerland and Japan.

"I work mainily in mixed media, and I often use discarded materials, as I believe in recycling as much as possible. More recently I have ventured into the world of sculpture, also using a variety of materials."
