My sewing career
started in a sewing factory in Tauranga when I was 17. Over 5 years,
I learnt all the basics of garment construction, then I retired to have
a family. Retirement lasted 6 months! My old boss set me up at home
to do outwork making jackets. Gradually I took on work for other people
doing dressmaking and alterations etc. I soon moved on to making curtains
which led on to making bedspreads as well and really quite enjoyed the
challenges of this aspect of sewing, but I did struggle with the sheer
bulk of fabric that I had to get through my sewing machine.
The opportunity
to buy a Quilting business came up and even though I never even knew
there was such a thing as a long arm quilting machine I went and investigated,
and one look and I was sold. It is now over 3 years down the track and
over 700 quilts later and I am so pleased that I took the plunge and
bought the business. Every day is a great day and it offers a new quilt
and a new challenge. Quilting
is my passion and it gives me the greatest pleasure to work on finishing
your quilts for you.
My aim at Stitchworks
is to give you the very best service that I can. I really like for your
quilt to be ready when you want it to be and with the kind of quilting
that you want on your quilt but I also love to be creative and I now
have many customers who want it to be a surprise and say,”you do
what you think is right for my quilt”. There are always options
and I am always happy to give you lots of choices. I recently sold the
fabric retail side of my business and no longer carry patchwork fabrics
but I now specialise in wide
backing fabrics which add the finishing touches to the look of your
quilts. No more Joins! which also make them roll onto the quilting machine
much easier.
